Horseshoe pitching is an inexpensive sport, requires a small playing area, and involves a moderate amount of healthful outdoor exercise. Though horseshoes is played by individuals of all ages, it is an ideal sport to satisfy the needs of older athletes. The acts of throwing the horseshoe, walking between the stakes, bending over to retrieve the shoes, and recording the scores provide both exercise and socialization between players. The game may be played with as few as two to as many as 36 players and requires that each participant keep score.

If you are an athlete or coach interested in participating in horseshoes, select your county on the right to find your area program.

The culminating event for horseshoes takes place at the State Summer Games in Mt. Pleasant at the beginning of June.
