State Competitions

Special Olympics Michigan holds more than 700 local and regional competitions each year in addition to seven state-level competitions and four district basketball tournaments. Information on local and regional competitions can be found on the events calendar. State-level competition information can be found below.

State Summer Games

July 16 & 17 2021

Details for the 2021 State Summer Games are still being finalized. However, we plan to hold an event in some capacity in early July 16 & 17 on the campus of Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, and in the greater Grand Rapids areas.

District Basketball

Dates and details for the 2021 District Basketball Tournament are still to be determined. Check back for updates.

Approximately 1,800 athletes and 350 coaches/chaperones participate in the district basketball tournament each year. The district basketball tournament is the qualifying tournament for the State Basketball Finals.

State Winter Games

2021 State Winter Games: Cancelled

Special Olympics Michigan has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 State Winter Games. While this decision is extremely disappointing, SOMI athletes and fans can look forward to seeing smaller-scale, high-quality, local sporting events at various locations throughout Michigan this winter. At-home and virtual training and fitness opportunities will also continue to be offered.
