TEAM MICHIGAN | Special Olympics USA Games Update | June 23, 2026

Day two of competition at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games proved to be the busiest—and one of the most successful—days yet for #TeamMichigan. The delegation delivered in a big way, racking up 30 new medals with standout performances and multiple trips to the podium in Athletics, Bocce, Gymnastics, Powerlifting, and Swimming.
The day's biggest highlight came in the pool, where Aspen Avery made USA Games history by winning gold in the 50-yard butterfly in 28.13 seconds, setting a new Special Olympics USA Games record. The historic-making race was featured live on ESPN, where Avery also shared an interview following the milestone victory.
Athletics, Powerlifting, and Swimming all took center stage live on ESPN throughout the day, showcasing Team Michigan athletes to a national audience. Powerlifter Tessa Rosinski was also featured in an interview, sharing her passion for the sport and what representing Michigan means to her.
Meanwhile, Team Michigan's Unified Volleyball and Flag Football teams continued division play and remain in contention for medals later this week as bracket competition approaches.
Tomorrow: Competition Continues
Wednesday brings another action-packed day of competition for Team Michigan, with more medals up for grabs across multiple sports.
Athletics returns to the track for another full slate of races, while athletes will also take part in medal ceremonies that were postponed Tuesday due to severe weather. In Bocce, competition shifts from Doubles to Singles play, where Team Michigan athletes will face competitors from across the country in one-on-one matchups. Powerlifting wraps up competition with Team Michigan's final two lifters aiming to add to the delegation's impressive medal haul.
On the team sports side, Unified Volleyball and Soccer will each have their first opportunity to compete for medals, while Flag Football advances to the quarterfinals.
Riding high on the heels of Tuesday, Team Michigan looks to keep the medals coming on another exciting day at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games.
