No athlete, regardless of ability level, should ever be excluded from Special Olympics. The Motor Activity Training Program (MATP) is designed for athletes with severe or profound intellectual disabilities who are unable to participate in official Special Olympics sport competitions because of their skill and/or functional abilities.

This unique sport-based program emphasizes training and participation rather than competition. It also provides people with severe limitations the opportunity to participate in appropriate recreational activities geared to their ability levels. Like all Special Olympics athletes, Motor Activity Training Program athletes train and are celebrated for their efforts.

If you are an athlete or coach interested in participating in MATP, select your county on the right to find your area program.
