TEAM MICHIGAN | Special Olympics USA Games Update | June 22, 2026

"All my hard work paid off. Do your best, have fun no matter what. If you win, you win, if you lose, you lose, and that's okay."

— Liz Viele, Gold Medalist

Competition opened with immediate momentum for Team Michigan on the first full day of competition at the  2026 Special Olympics USA Games, highlighted by standout performances from all four SOMI athletes in the Gymnastics All-Around Finals. Athletes delivered under pressure on the national stage, earning 4 of the delegation's first medals of the Games, including 1 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze.
Both Team Michigan Soccer and Unified Volleyball teams are undefeated after two games each today.
Athletics is in preliminary rounds, with several athletes advancing toward tomorrow’s medal finals after strong qualifying performances. Bocce and Powerlifting had scheduled rest days, giving athletes time to recover ahead of upcoming competition.
In Flag Football, Team Michigan dropped a close matchup but will return to the field tomorrow as divisioning play continues and opportunities remain ahead.
