TEAM MICHIGAN | Special Olympics USA Games Update | June 20, 2026

Let the Games Begin!
The 2026 Special Olympics USA Games are officially underway. Tonight, Team Michigan – a delegation nearly 80 strong – proudly marched into Huntington Bank Stadium alongside 3,000 athletes from across the nation as part of Opening Ceremony. Decked out in Team Michigan gear, our athletes, Unified partners, coaches, and delegation members celebrated the start of a week of competition, inclusion, and achievement.
The energy throughout the stadium was electric as athletes from all 50 states gathered to kick off the Games and begin their journey toward competition.
ICYMI: Sunday, June 21 (tomorrow), we'll share an ESPN clip of Team Michigan's entrance into the stadium as our delegation made its way into the Opening Ceremony.
If you missed tonight's celebration, be sure to tune in to the USA Games Preview Show on Sunday, June 21, from 12–2 p.m. ET on ABC, where you'll catch highlights from the Opening Ceremony and a preview of the week ahead.
Cameras were not allowed in the stadium with the delegation. We will share the professional photos from Special Olympics International in our Team Michigan album as soon as they are available.

Tomorrow: Team Practice
Sunday marks the first full day of preparations as Team Michigan takes to their competition venues for official practices. It will be their first opportunity to see and experience the venues where they will compete. Athletes will train for the first time in full uniform starting at 8:00 a.m. CST.

Stay tuned throughout the week for daily updates, results, medal counts, photos, and stories from our athletes.
Make sure to wish all of our athletes’ luck as they prepare for competition. The road to the podium starts tomorrow!
