Special Olympics Michigan (SOMI) is excited to announce the return of the November Classic, taking place Friday, November 7, 2025, in the Metro-Detroit area. The event will feature state-level competition for nearly 2,250 athletes, coaches, and partners from across Michigan, showcasing inclusion, teamwork, and quality sports competition.
“The November Classic is not just a showcase of athletic talent; it’s a celebration of community and the power of sports to bring people together,” said Nick Caudle, Senior Manager of Sports & Training for Special Olympics Michigan. “We are thrilled to see so many athletes, families, and supporters come together for a day filled with competition, camaraderie, and joy.”
This year, the November Classic will include state finals competition in the following sports:
- Poly Hockey: 43 teams, 496 athletes, plus 30 skills athletes practicing fundamentals and technique.
- Flag Football: 20 teams, 184 athletes and Unified partners.
- Cornhole: 18 Doubles Teams, 36 athletes competing in friendly, inclusive matches.
- Traditional & Unified Bowling: 1,019 athletes and partners across three flights (9:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 2:30 PM).
Supporting the athletes are 219 coaches, contributing to a total delegation of 2,248 participants.
In addition, Healthy Athletes Special Smiles screenings will be offered at United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM) Sports Complex from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM, helping athletes maintain healthy smiles and emphasizing the importance of overall wellness.
“Special Smiles is such an important part of the Healthy Athletes disciplines,” said Kellie Murphy, Manager of Sports & Wellness. “It’s more than just dental screenings—these programs help athletes learn about healthy habits, receive essential care, and feel confident in their health. It’s incredible to see the positive impact it has on every athlete we serve.”
Poly Hockey, Flag Football, and Cornhole tournaments will be held at the UWM Sports Complex in Pontiac, starting at 9:00 AM and continuing throughout the day. Unified & Traditional Bowling will take place at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, with competitions across three flights. Spectators are encouraged to attend and cheer on athletes as they demonstrate their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
