Scott Rowsey from Jenison, Mich. was named the "2019 SpartanNash Healthy Athlete of the Year" on Thursday, May 30. A crowd of more than 6,000 people at Kelly/Shorts Stadium on the campus of Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant were in attendance. The announcement was made during the Opening Ceremony for the 2019 Special Olympics Michigan State Summer Games presented by SpartanNash.

"I'm so excited and proud to receive this award. I hope to inspire others and show them what it means to lead a healthy lifestyle," said Scott.
Scott competes in five Special Olympics Michigan sports including Unified basketball, Unified volleyball, Unified flag football, soccer and poly hockey. In Unified Sports, Special Olympics Michigan athletes with intellectual disabilities compete alongside athletes without intellectual disabilities, known as Unified partners. In addition to competing with Special Olympics Michigan, Scott also has a job and is taking college courses.
