Since 1982, the Wertz Warriors have raised $7,917,000 to help fund the Special Olympics Michigan State Winter Games.
This year, the Wertz Warriors will give approximately 900 Special Olympics Michigan athletes rides on snowmobiles in just 90 minutes at the State Winter Games.
During the 2010 ride the Wertz Warrior hope to raise $350,000.
Nearly 50 snowmobile riders and 30 support crew will make up the 2010 ride.
Each year's ride requires that riders drive their snowmobiles 900 miles. Since 1982, the Wertz Warriors have driven a combined 1,054,082 miles.
Up to 7,000 gallons of gas, 1,800 gallons of diesel fuel and 80 gallons of oil can be used during a single endurance ride.
In 2009, some gas stops to fill the snowmobiles cost as much as $1,200.
In 2009, it took under 15 minutes to fill 43 snowmobiles per stop.
Each year the Wertz Warriors make about 26 stops over seven days to collect money for Special Olympics Michigan athletes.
Fundraisers are held all year long by the Wertz Warriors and their supporters to help raise money for Special Olympics Michigan athletes.
