Special Olympics Michigan has so much to be thankful for this holiday season - our sponsors, donors, volunteers, athletes and SOMI Phototheir families. Our programs exist so that children and adults with intellectual disabilities in Michigan have a chance to experience acceptance, joy and accomplishments through sports training and competition. Athletes form friendships, learn life skills, and boost self confidence. Dreams come true.

SOMI Photo 2Our programs wouldn’t be possible without so many who have joined us in our mission. Our staff and thousands of volunteers across Michigan strive to enrich the lives of our athletes. In the process, an amazing thing happens - they enrich our lives. Please help us continue the mission Eunice Kennedy Shriver started in 1968.

SOMI Photo 3Give the gift that keeps on giving, a gift to Special Olympics Michigan athletes. For people with intellectual disabilities, Special Olympics is often the only place where they have an opportunity to develop belief in themselves, gain acceptance and make life-long friends. Please consider an end of year gift and help us give the power of participation in sports.

Different Ways to Donate:

Individual Giving
Give joy this holiday season and make a secure online donation to Special Olympics Michigan. Every dollar counts and generous donations from our supporters will help reach more children and adults with intellectual disabilities who want to participate in Special Olympics Michigan and develop the perseverance, spirit and skills to realize their dreams. It’s a great alternative holiday gift for those on your holiday list who are most difficult to shop for and the money supports training and competition for Special Olympics Michigan athletes, giving more people with intellectual disabilities the chance to gain self-confidence, acceptance and friendship. Visit http://www.somi.org to make your contribution today. Donate using your credit card by calling 1-(800)-644-6404. Please call weekdays from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. EST. Donations can also be made by mail by sending a check or money order to:

Planned Giving
Planned giving is an increasingly popular way for individuals of all financial circumstances to make charitable gifts. Planned giving enables a donor to arrange for charitable contributions in ways that maximize his or her personal objectives. There are many options from which you can choose. The correct plan for you balances what you wish to accomplish for yourself, your family, and your charitable interests in your overall estate and financial plans.

Tributes, Memorials, and Honorariums
Special Olympics Michigan would be honored to receive a memorial or tribute donation that honors the life, love and accomplishments of an individual. A tribute or memorial donation is a thoughtful gift and lasting legacy that will help Special Olympics Michigan athletes. Special Olympics Michigan is also appreciative to receive honorary gifts that recognize a group in a special way.

Bequest
A gift given at your death as directed by your Will or Revocable Living Trust.

Gift Annuity
A contribution that you make that is part gift and part investment. By making the contribution, you receive an agreement with the charity to pay you a fixed amount for the rest of your life. At your death, the residue of the amount you initially gifted is retained by the charity. At the time of the gift, you get a tax deduction for a portion of the original amount contributed. In addition, a portion of each annual payment to you is tax-free. The annual payment percentage is based on your age at the time of the gift.

Charitable Remainder Trust
A Trust created by a donor that pays a fixed percentage for life or a period of years. At the end of that time frame, the assets remainder in the Trust goes to charity. Like a Gift Annuity, the donor gets a tax deduction at the time of the gift and annual payments for life. Unlike a Gift Annuity, the charity does not actually receive any funds until the termination of the Trust, since the Trust controls all assets in it.

Gifts of Stock
Did you know that donating stock has more value than selling it? By donating your stock you can avoid the capital-gains taxes on the profit. Special Olympics Michigan has a brokerage account set up so we can have the ability to accept stock gifts. Please contact Roger Yob at yob1ra@cmich.edu or 1-800-644-6404 for the details you need to tell your broker to donate your stock to Special Olympics.

Matching Gifts
Does your company offer matching gifts? Your gift can help even more! You can find out by using this search form. If your company does match gifts, please provide us with the necessary paperwork.
