More than 800 athletes and 200 coaches and chaperones will gather for the Special Olympics Michigan State Poly Hockey and Unified Bowling Finals competition November 17-18 in Lansing at Eastern High School & Fieldhouse. Unified Bowling will be held at Royal Scot Lanes.

The event is proudly sponsored by Statewide Civic Partner Water Warriors, a group of dedicated volunteers and personal watercraft enthusiasts who work year-round to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Michigan athletes.

The State Poly Hockey & Unified Bowling Finals is one of more than a dozen state-level competitions held annually for Special Olympics Michigan, but the state level is just a slice of the more than 400 annual local and regional competitions.

Poly Hockey is an adaptive sport similar to floor hockey. Athletes use plastic hockey sticks and pucks and play on a gym floor surface. Poly Hockey will consist of both team play and an individual skills competition.

The State Poly Hockey and Unified Bowling Finals will feature the TRAIN (Testing Recreational Activity and Improving Nutrition) program will offer health information and advice in the areas of nutrition, dental care and physical fitness. This is designed to convey and reinforce key concepts on healthy living and healthy lifestyle choices. It will also feature Special Smiles®  which offers free dental screenings, oral health information and instructions on proper brushing and flossing. Athletes leave screenings with preventative supplies like toothpaste and toothbrushes. The TRAIN program and Special Smiles® are components of the Healthy Athletes® Program presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
