The State Golf and Softball Finals would not have been as successful without the support of CVS and the $3,000 CVS Caremark Community Grant. The goal of the grant is to fund programs that are closely aligned with CVS Caremark All Kids Can, the company's signature philanthropic program focused on supporting children with disabilities which correlates directly with the mission of Special Olympics Michigan. CVS strives to make a positive impact in surrounding communities buy supporting organizations that truly make a difference in the lives of children and families.

The grant from CVS Caremark assisted Special Olympics Michigan with the costs of Golf and Softball Finals that hosted 550 athletes both Thursday, July 19 in Ypsilanti and Saturday, July 21 in Canton.

State Golf Finals in Ypsilanti had quite the turnout despite the bad weather. Athletes persevered through the rain and made this competition and absolute celebration of their athletic skills and friendships with fellow athletes and coaches.

State Softball Finals in Canton was a perfect demonstration of what Special Olympics Michigan strives for: athletes experiencing joy, demonstrating courage and befriending each other. The tournament was a friendly competition with athletes celebrating and congratulating each other win or lose.

Special Olympics Michigan Chief Program Officer Ann Guzdzial said, "The CVS team brings our team together on the playing field and offers everyone involved life changing experiences. The support of the CVS Caremark volunteers and funds provide the athletes who participate in this softball and golf tournament the power of community. The sense of care provided by CVS Caremark brings such hope to everyone involved.

Thank you to CVS for the outstanding support of Special Olympics Michigan athletes. As well as congratulations to all of the athletes that competed in The 2012 State Golf and Softball Finals. Special Olympics Michigan looks forward to another great year of competition!
